When the Science and Engineering Library closed in March along with the rest of campus, Science Librarian Paulina Borrego wasn't about to let the growing season go to waste. Borrego is one of the founder of the Mass Aggie Seed Library, and since its inception was preparing for this spring.

Borrego, working from home in Northfield, Mass., experimented with taking seed requests, retrieving the seeds from the library, and sending them via mail. The response was so successful that she mailed over 1,000 seed packets to 205 households by the time she was done, May 1.

"The next phase is reaching out to people to encourage them to save and donate seed," said Borrego. She included hand-written notes of encouragement to the gardeners as well.
